In this emerging digital world, if we see, most of us are
spending good amount of time on accessing different websites on various digital screens. When I say about
these screens, they could be ranging from standard desktop to smart watches. In
present scenario, if we see, most of the fortune companies across different
sectors like banking, media, insurance, manufacturing and so on... are showing
their web presence with responsive UI across various digital screens. Organizations prefer for single source code
approach to develop their applications which targets the multiple screens. So,
when a request comes based on the screen width, the content within the browser
gets loaded. In this pursuit, it lays a greater challenge for testers to test
these responsive web applications across different devices.
Applications developed using responsive web UI are meant to
render perfectly on desktop, tablet, smart phone and smartwatches. This leaves
QA groups to properly identify the test cases which should enable them to design the same
smartly. As a QA engineer, we should be knowing the internals of the design
architecture, so that based on the screen sizes, respective UI rendering and
functionality can be tested across different set of browsers. This leaves a
huge combination of testable matrix to test these applications.
So, how about considering automating testing to test the
responsive web ui? As QA groups need to spend huge amount of time in
testing these applications with
different combinations when taken manual approach. The selection of automation
tool should be in such a way that, it should boost their ROI by reducing the maintenance efforts. This means, what ever script that is developed, it should
be reusable across the mobile browser or tablet browsers or desktop browser.
Finally, implementing proper UI , automation and integration
testing with some best practices for responsive web UI, can enable the QA
groups to improvise their efficiency and to deliver the things in time.
